In Reliance Industries’ 41st Annual General Meeting (AGM), Isha Ambani, daughter of Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries announced the launch of JioGigaFibre. Jio also launched Jio Phone 2 in this meeting.
JioGigaFiber is a high-speed optical fiber-based broadband service. Two of the main features of JioGigaFibre will be smart home technology and TV calling. JioGigaFiber broadband will come with a set-top box for TV. It will also have enabled voice command feature on TV.
The JioGigaFibre uses Fiber to the home (FTTH) technology. I will clarify this right after this. It is expected to disrupt the segment of home broadband services now. Reliance is likely to offer an attractive combo of fast broadband connectivity at initial data speeds of 100 Mbps.
Fiber is the technology of the future and has the ability to offer the ultimate broadband experience. In Jio official website Jio describes what is JioFiber. You can also read there. Just check that once.
What is FTTH?
After reading the word “FTTH” you may have a big question mark in your face. So let’s clear this first. FTTH, as the name suggests Fiber to the home technology.
This means installing the fiber cable right up to the individual building. At present, the fiber cable reaches only to the main premises while the last connections to individual homes/offices are through traditional copper cable.
Why is FTTH faster?
Everyone is telling FTTH is faster. But do you know why? Actually, the cable used for connections to individual units is not made of fiber. The traditional cable is not as efficient as the fiber cable. Due to connecting patches, etc.
The traditional copper cable is slower. A fiber cable till the individual unit dramatically increases speed and quality and improves the experience of surfing, gaming, and streaming, etc.
You may say FTTH could be 100 times faster than the traditional modem connections. Although, FTTH is also costlier than the traditional copper cable.
Is FTTH is a new technology?
No, at all. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) already offers FTTH broadband schemes in Kolkata and Chennai. However, Jio’s investment in FTTH will at a much bigger scale and more aggressive as always. Jio is running a pilot in many cities.
JioFiber Preview Offer has currently launched the plan in selected areas of Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Ahmedabad, Jamnagar, Surat, and Vadodara only.
Is JioFiber is free for 3 months
Well, let’s see. A rumor is buzzing around. Jio fiber is free for 3 months. A number of Youtube channels and other portals have stated methods to Buy Jio Fiber Broadband Online, but currently Jio Broadband is on hold and there is no official update about how and when the Jio Broadband will be available
Jio may be left behind all the broadband service provider in near future. As Jio is aggressive about the JioGigaFiber service, it is expected that it will available soon. Let’s watch and see.
